Federal Loan Extension Benefits For Coronavirus Victims

The President recently announced an extension of the federal loan extension program for those affected by the coronavirus. The benefits of this extension will continue through Aug. 31, 2022, and are intended to provide "fresh starts" for all borrowers whose loans have been paused due to disasters. These fresh starts will erase the impact of delinquency or default, allowing borrowers to enter repayment with clean financial records.

The Disaster Set-Aside Program provides financial assistance to producers whose crops are damaged enough to make regular payments due to disasters. Assistance is available to producers in counties declared an emergency by the President, Secretary, or FSA Administrator.

Other federal programs include the Emergency Conservation Program, which helps farmers and ranchers restore damaged crops after natural disasters and put in place water conservation techniques during periods of extreme drought.

Finally, the Emergency Forest Restoration Program works to restore health to private forests that were devastated by natural disasters.
